The Carrington FFA Chapter placed second in overall competition at the FFA District 6 Leadership Conference held in Tappen, Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The Carrington FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team placed second in the district competition, earning a Gold Team Award. The team consisted of Isabel Wendel, President of the Day; Sierra Friedt, vice president, gold; Molly Hansen, secretary, gold; Bailey Ness, treasurer, gold; Abby Lee, reporter, gold; and Mercedes Lura, sentinel, gold. The team will advance to the State Leadership Events.
The FFA Advanced Quiz Team placed second, earning a gold award. Individually, Molly Hansen was the first place individual, Isabel Wendel was the second place individual, Abby Lee was the 10th place individual, Bailey Ness was the 11th place individual and Charles Jorgenson was the 13th place individual. The team will advance to the State Leadership Development Events.
The FFA Greenhand Quiz Team placed third, earning a silver award. Cally Hansen was the fifth high individual and Kenleigh Hinrichs was the seventh high individual, both receiving gold awards. Silver award recipients were Emery Patzer, Maara Kutz and Justin Hone. Bronze award recipients were Joie Helseth, Leighton Ness and Gabe Inglish.
Molly Hansen placed second in the Prepared Public Speaking Event, earning a gold award and advancing to the State Leadership Development Events. Molly's speech was on the topic of using gene editing in cattle.
Sierra Friedt placed first in the Employment Skills competition, earning a gold award and advancing to the State Leadership Development Events. The competition is based on her cover letter, resume, job application form and her personal interview.
Cally Hansen placed first, earning a gold award in the FFA Creed Public Speaking competition. She presented the FFA Creed from memorization and answered questions related to the FFA Creed. She will advance to the State Leadership Development Events.
Joie Helseth placed third, earning a gold award in the Extemporaneous Speaking competition. The students had 30 minutes to prepare a four to six minute speech about an agricultural magazine article.
In the Demonstration event, Molly Fiebiger earned a bronze award. She presented a demonstration about how to make a flower arrangement.
The Conduct of Chapter meetings team placed first, earning a gold award. Cally Hansen was the President of the Day; Joie Helseth, vice president, gold award; Justin Hone, secretary, gold award; Maara Kutz, treasurer of the day; Kenleigh Hinrichs reporter, gold award; and Emery Patzer, sentinel, silver award. Gabe Inglish served as the student advisor and Leighton Ness served as the team assistant. The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team will advance to the State Leadership Conference Events.
The State Leadership Events competition will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Bismarck.
