Kansas State University (K-State) senior Logan Topp, son of Ryan and Prairie Topp of Grace City, was a member of two of K-State's three national championship-winning judging teams during the 2024 collegiate season, which begins in the spring and ends with the national competition in the fall.
Topp (fifth from right, back row on top photo), along with his teammates, helped deliver the national title to the K-State Livestock Judging Team at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 19. The Livestock Judging Team competes at the Cattlemen's Congress, OK, National Western Stock Show, CO, Iowa Beef Expo, IA, San Antonio Stock Show, TX, Houston Livestock Show, TX, World Beef Expo, WI, American Royal, MO and ends at the NAILE, KY. 2024 marks the 16th national championship for K-State's livestock judging program.
He was also a member of the Meat Animal Evaluation Team (below) which won its fourth consecutive national championship at the 2024 Collegiate Meat Animal Evaluation Contest in Laramie, Wyo., held April 11-13 on the campus of the University of Wyoming. Topp is pictured fourth from the left, middle row.
The April competition includes live market animal carcass predictions and pricing, breeding animal evaluation and meat judging competition, and truly serves as a capstone judging experience for students with its incorporation of so many industry-applicable concepts. The team placed in each division of the contest, which consisted of breeding, market, meats, beef, swine, sheep and communications.
