Kiwanis Club officers for 1949 were installed at the regular weekly meeting Wednesday, when J.C. Hoffert, past president and past district lieutenant governor, acted as installing officer. Before giving the charge to each officer, he spoke briefly on Kiwanis policies and ideals.
Mrs. Forrest Daniel, Sykeston, was hostess in her home at a Christmas party for the Woman’s Club Thursday afternoon. Her home was decorated for the occasion, one of the decorative points of interest being a blooming poinsettia, a gift from her son, Forrest. Mrs. Harry Sittauer was a guest.
The Cathay basketball team traveled to Sykeston Friday night and were defeated by a score of 32-27. The Cathay Independents defeated the Sykeston Independents by a score of 33-18.
Recent births at Carrington Hospital include: Dec. 20 – girl to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kautzman, Pingree; Jan. 3 – boy to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller, Heaton; Jan. 3 – boy to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Larson, Juanita.
Jack Spink returned Monday to Northfield, Minn., where he attends St. Olaf College, after spending the holidays here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Spink.
Mrs. Ralph Slaaten and daughter, Sheryl, of Williston, arrived Sunday to visit a few weeks with Mrs. Slaaten’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Seibold.
On Tuesday evening in the Sutton school gym, the high school girls basketball team was defeated by an independent girls’ team. The same evening Sutton’s mens’ independent team defeated Estabrook independents.
The marriage of Margaret Van de Erve and T.M. Norton took place recently at Menlo Park, Calif., friends here have learned. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. Van de Erve, formerly of Carrington.

A Carrington committee is exploring ways to observe the national Bicentennial in 1976, and likely much study will be made during the first months of 1975 seeking direction in this effort.
Glenfield history as recorded by Miss Lottie Posey, former teacher and postmaster there, will be featured in the January program of the Foster County Historical Society when it meets on Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church in Glenfield.
Herbert Broschat of Cathay is serving as field representative for the N.D. Farmers Union. The farm organization’s president, E.W. Smith of Jamestown, said Broschat has been assigned field responsibilities in assisting local and county Farmers Union units and cooperatives in Sheridan, Wells, Eddy and Foster counties to increase the understanding of the activities and objectives of Farmers Union and cooperatives.
The CHS junior high wrestling team won a dual match from Jamestown by 43 to 21 there Dec. 20. Winner by pin for CHS was Randy Lura, 92; CHS winners of decisions were Steve Berntson, 90; Todd Skadberg, 86; Tom Clark, 98; Roger Gussiaas, 110; Dennis Steinman, 116; Andy Zink, 128; Jim Clark, 134; and Tony Zink, 168.
CHS junior wrestlers defeated a Devils Lake team December 21 at Carrington by 30-12. Carrington winners were Randy Lura, Tom Clark, Reed Emerson and Paul Klocke, all at 92; Brent Miller and Dave Copenhaver won two matches at 128 and 134, respectively.
Losers, all by decision, were Scott Hewitt, 74; Wes Kutz, 80; Mitch Heiden, 86; and Gregg Ova, 98.

Kensal’s Parents-Teacher Organization (PTO) applied for an Artist-in Residence grant and was awarded a grant for $1,065 from the North Dakota Council of the Arts.
Jimmy Kleinsasser’s rise to prominence for the Minnesota Vikings is the top ranked North Dakota sports story of 1999, as chosen by the Associated Press print and broadcast members.
Jordan Skytland, 6, won a giant bag of toys given away by the Cenex C-Store on Dec. 23.
Carrington Fire Chief Lonnie Suckut accepted a $1,000 check from Mike Flaten, Cargill employee, who received the award as part of the Cargill Cares program for volunteer services. Flaten is a volunteer firefighter. The funds will go toward a new fire truck for the department.
Deb Stoppleworth, Cargill employee received $1,000 as Cargill Cares volunteer for the Tri-County Farm Safety 4 Just Kids program.
A total of $32,060 in Christmas Cash loans helped keep some holiday shopping in Carrington this year, according to the four financial institutions involved.
Allan Bauer bowled a second highest record series in Junior League, Nov. 28, at New Rockford’s Wonder Lanes. He bowled games of 194, 257 and 203 for a series total of 654. Bauer is a high school senior in New Rockford. He is the son of Danny and Joan Shroyer, New Rockford. The highest record for junior league bowlers is owned by Ryan Carr who bowled a 673 in 1998.
