Fifteen members of the Carrington FFA Chapter competed in the State FFA Leadership Development Events held in Bismarck on January 7. The members advanced to the state competition by placing in the top two at the District 6 Leadership Conference.
The Quiz Team was named the State Champion Team. The team placed third after the written test. They beat Rugby in the semi-final oral round and then Mohall in the final round. Team members include Molly Hansen, Isabel Wendel, Bailey Ness, Abby Lee and Charles Jorgenson. The quiz event included a 100-question test of FFA history, state and national leadership, parliamentary procedure and general FFA knowledge.
The Conduct of Chapter meetings team placed second, earning a gold award. Team members included: Cally Hansen, President; Joie Helseth, Vice President; Justin Hone, Secretary; Maara Kutz, Treasurer; Kenleigh Hinrichs, Reporter; Emery Patzer, Sentinel; Sam Simons, Student Advisor and Leighton Ness, Alternate Officer.
The Parliamentary Procedure Team placed second, earning a gold award. Team members included Isabel Wendel, President; Sierra Friedt, Vice President; Molly Hansen, Secretary; Bailey Ness, Treasurer; Abby Lee, Reporter and Mercedes Lura, Sentinel.
Cally Hansen placed second in the Creed Speaking event, earning a gold award. She presented the FFA Creed and answered questions related to the Creed.
Sierra Friedt placed third in the Employment Skills competition. The competition is based on her cover letter, resume, job application form and her personal interview.
Molly Hansen placed fourth in the Prepared Public Speaking event, earning a gold award. She presented a speech on the technology of gene editing in beef cattle.
